Robert Hayward describes his career as an electrician as both rewarding and challenging. His work spans a wide range of environments, from boats to oil rigs, where he applies his skills to high-tech tasks in the electrical field. With a background in the Industrial/Construction Electrician program at the College of the North Atlantic, Robert leverages his knowledge of electrical systems, often working at heights and handling complex installations.

Robert’s journey began in residential electrical work, which led to an industrial focus during his apprenticeship. Starting at a window manufacturing plant, he transitioned through various roles before becoming a Journeyman Industrial Electrician. With aspirations to return to school for an Instrumentation Program, Robert is working toward dual certification in Electrical and Instrumentation, a step that will open new career opportunities in the industry.

Working from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with offshore rotations as needed, Robert’s day involves a mix of maintenance, troubleshooting, and system installation tasks. His work requires travel throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, including offshore rigs. Physically demanding and often carried out in varied environments, his role emphasizes safety, with responsibilities that include reducing risks related to electric shock, falls, and heavy lifting.
